SEOUL: South Korean President Park Geun-Hye today hit out at “groundless” rumours circling her administration, some of which have touched on her personal life and triggered defamation suits against domestic and foreign media outlets.
서울: 한국 박근혜 대통령이 오늘 자신의 행정부에 돌고 있는 “근거 없는” 소문에 대해 공격했고 그 중의 일부는 자신의 사생활에 관한 것으로 국내와 해외의 언론사에 대한 명예훼손 소송을 야기시켰다.
“There have been a lot of groundless allegations. It’s time to reveal the truth so that people should not be thrown into confusion any more,” Park said in televised comments to senior advisers.
“많은 근거 없는 주장들이 있어왔다. 이제 사실을 밝혀 더 이상 사람들이 혼란에 빠지지 않도록 해야할 시간이다”고 박근혜가 텔레비전으로 방영된 보도에서 수석보좌관들에게 말했다.
The latest allegation, made by the local Segye Times daily, is that a former Park aide, Jeong Yun-Hoe, who holds no official administration position, has been meddling in state affairs.
국내 세계일보가 가장 최근에 한 주장은, 공식적인 정부의 직위를 가지지 않은 전 대통령 보좌관 정윤회가 국정에 관여해왔다는 것이다.
Citing an internal Presidential office document, the Unification Church-owned newspaper said Jeong received regular briefings from senior presidential officials, and had pushed for the dismissal of Park’s current Chief-of-Staff.
청와대 내부 문건을 인용하며, 통일교 소유의 이 신문은 정 씨가 청와대 수석 보좌관들로부터 정기적인 보고를 받아왔고 박 대통령의 현 비서실장이 물러나도록 압력을 가했다고 말했다.
The presidential Blue House insists the document is inaccurate and state prosecutors launched a probe on Monday into how it came to be leaked.
청와대는 그 문건은 정확하지 않은 것이라고 말했고 월요일 검찰은 어떻게 그 문건이 유출됐는지에 대한 조사를 시작했다.
The officials named as those who briefed Jung have filed a defamation suit against the Segye Times.
정 씨에게 보고했다고 알려진 관계자들은 세계일보를 명예훼손으로 고발했다.
“If there is any malicious slander, those responsible for it will he held accountable,” Park said.
“만약 악의적인 중상이 있다면, 책임자들은 그에 대한 책임을 져야 할 것이다”고 박 대통령은 말했다.
This all comes days after the trial opened in Seoul of a Japanese journalist accused of defaming Park in a report regarding her whereabouts on the day the Sewol passenger ferry sank with the loss of 300 lives.
이는 세월호 침몰로 300명이 사망한 당일 박 대통령의 행적에 관한 보도로 인해 박 대통령의 명예를 훼손했다는 혐의를 받고 있는 일본 기자의 재판이 서울에서 시작되고 며칠 후 일어난 일들이다.
The story picked up rumours circulating in the South Korean media and stock broker houses that unmarried Park had disappeared for a tryst with the same former aide, Jung.
이 이야기는 미혼의 박 대통령이 앞에 언급된 전직 보좌관 정 씨와의 밀회를 위해 사라졌다는 한국 언론과 증권가에 떠도는 루머를 다뤘다.
South Korean defamation law focuses on whether what was said or written was in the public interest- rather than whether it was true.
한국의 명예 훼손법은 말하거나 글로 표현된 내용이 사실 여부인가 보다는 공공의 이익을 위한 것인지에 초점을 맞춘다.
Media freedom group Reporters Without Borders has criticized the trial of the Japanese journalist, arguing that his report was clearly in the public interest.
언론 자유 단체인 국경 없는 기자회는 일본 기자의 보도는 명확히 공공의 이익을 위한 것이라고 주장하며 그에 대한 재판을 비판했다.
